27th Rector, Christ Church Oyster Bay
Michael Piret (rhymes with Chevrolet; his last name is French-Belgian), was for 21 years the Dean of Divinity, Magdalen College, University of Oxford, as they, somewhat grandly, call their chaplain. He became the 27th Rector of Christ Church Oyster Bay on February 1, 2016 Michael was born and raised in Buffalo, New York and thus is a big fan of ice hockey (although not the Islanders!). He enjoys music – traditional to modern – and was the former president of the C.S. Lewis Society in Oxford. His college education was SUNY Fredonia, the University of Michigan and the Scottish Episcopal Institute (previously known as Edinburgh Theological College). He has been a Deacon since 1992 and was ordained Priest in 1993. During his time at Oxford, he presided over many nationwide broadcasts on the BBC. Father Piret and his wife, Sian, have no children and one cat, Fergus. Dr. Sian Piret is a post-doctoral researcher formerly based at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, and was a lecturer in Medicine at Somerville College, University of Oxford. Sian was also a soccer referee in the professional and semi-professional men's and women's soccer leagues in the UK.
