Peter Casparian was born in New York City and grew up in Pennsylvania and Kentucky. He attended St. Andrew's School in Sewanee, TN, and Rhodes College in Memphis. After graduating in 1974 from the the School of Theology, Sewanee, he began his ordained ministry in Kansas City, MO, as a youth minister and teacher. He served secondary school chaplaincies in the Diocese of Dallas, and later was the Episcopal Chaplain at the University of Kansas. In 1986 he began as Rector of St. Michael's Church, Lexington, KY, and then in 1995 became Rector of St. James American Church in Florence, Italy, where he served until he came to Oyster Bay in 2004.

Peter's wife, Marguerite, is from Memphis, TN, and is a graduate of Southern Methodist University, Dallas. She is a painter and a published children's book illustrator. Her ministries include serving as an Education for Ministry (EFM) mentor, working with the Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative (HIHI) and singing in the church choir.

They are the parents of two adult daughters, Rachel and Hannah.

Peter is an avid photographer, a fair weather clammer, an available sailing crewmate, and regularly demonstrates his barbecue smoking skills gleaned in the South.
