Outreach: Sharing God's Love
The Outreach Program at Christ Church supports ministries and missions through grants as well as through our individual contributions of time and treasure. We strive to make contributions to organizations that support basic human needs, are Christian, and are a mix between local, national and international charities. We always appreciate input from parishioners. If you hear of worthy charities that meet our objectives, please let us know.
Outreach Grants Committee. This committee is responsible for finding and reviewing deserving recipients of Christ Church's financial outreach. We strive to follow a fairly strict set of guidelines in order to select where our limited funds are distributed. The first guideline is that the charity be a viable charitable organization that provides support for basic human needs. We take the verification of these charitable organizations very seriously, and we have a formal application process for requests over $2000. Second, the parishioners of Christ Church have guided our committee to reach out to organizations whose mission aligns with our parishes’ values locally, nationally, and internationally. And third, we look to somewhat favor Christian, or Episcopal, charities. For information on applying for a grant from the Christ Church Oyster Bay Outreach Committee, click here.
St. Hilda’s Guild. The women parishioners of Christ Church have recently joined together with the goal of sponsoring a variety of fundraisers serving local charities. While Christ Church also has a generous Outreach ministry serving larger, well deserving causes, this Guild’s chosen ministry is to sponsor a few fundraising projects each year to help smaller, perhaps less recognized needs of charitable groups in our local communities. This new ministry has held two fund raisers so far, both to help the Hood African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Oyster Bay procure a new sign for their historic cemetery. If you would like to join forces with the ladies of the St. Hilda’s Guild, please contact the office at 516-922-6377 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative or HIHI, was founded by the Family Service League and many local congregations to address the needs of homeless men in our community. It is a grass roots effort to ensure that the homeless of Huntington Township have a safe and warm place to sleep during the coldest winter months. There are over 20 churches and synagogues who have committed to provide one night of shelter per week for the months of November through March. On one Sunday of each of these months, Christ Church volunteers provide meals, transportation, toiletry supplies, clothing, and funds for supplies and/or unforeseen expenses. Contact Stephanie Augustine (email@example.com), Bruce Andolfo (firstname.lastname@example.org) or the Church Office at 516-922-6377 if you would like to know more about this effort or would like to volunteer.
