2016 Parish Life
CONFIRMATION 2016. On May 7th, six people were confirmed and four received into the Episcopal Church by The Right Reverend Lawrence Provenzano at the Cathedral in Garden City.
Father's Day, Sunday June 16, was the Annual Parish Picnic. A good time, indeed, as evidenced by these pictures!
On Sunday, August 7th, TERRY WAITE, CBE, author, speaker, humanitarian, and former hostage, met with the Christ Church family during Coffee Hour after the 10:00 am service to discuss the theme, ‘Hostage Taking Today’.
As the Archbishop of Canterbury's special envoy, Terry became famous for his skills in negotiating the release of hostages in the aftermath of the Iranian Revolution of 1979. He subsequently negotiated the release of hostages taken in Libya. In January 1987, on a similar mission to Beirut, he was himself captured by a Jihadist group and was held hostage for 1763 days - nearly five years - most of it in solitary confinement. He was released in November 1991.
Blessing of the Pets. In honor of St. Francis, parish members were invited to bring their pets to the 10:00 am service on Sunday, October 2nd, for special blessing.
2016 marks the 30th birthday of our fine Helmuth Wolff organ, built during the tenure of Father Hollett, who died in May. A special anniversary recital was given by Daniel Hyde, Director of Music of St ThomasChurch Fifth Avenue, New York on Saturday, October 22nd.
All Hallows' Eve was celebrated on Sunday, October 30th, with a service in the Church, followed by a party in the Parish Hall.
St. Hilda's Guild kicked off their fund raising efforts with a pre-Thanksgiving Day Bake Sale on Sunday, November 20th. Over $800.00 was raised to help the Hood AME Zion Church procure a new sign for their cemetery on Pine Hollow Road. A special thank you to all who participated!
St. Nicholas Visits Christ Church!
During a surprise visit at Coffee Hour on Sunday, December 4th, St. Nicholas took a break from his busy schedule to visit with the children of Christ Church. The Holy Man spoke of his origins and reminded the children to do good works - especially during the Advent Season!
