  • Annual Meeting, 2017

Annual Meeting. At the Annual Parish Meeting and Luncheon on Sunday, March 5th, we gathered in Parish Hall to elect new members to the Vestry and to review the annual reports of various guilds and committees. During the sermon today, Father Piret gave his first "State of the Parish" Rector's Report.

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Sunday

On the Sunday nearest MLK Day each January, Christ Church joins  with members of the Hood African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church, to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Church is filled with music of the combined choirs of Christ Church and AME Zion. Rev. Aldo Romo and La Iglesia Camino de Vida also make a musical offering.  After the service, everyone enjoys a special luncheon in Parish Hall, hosted jointly by Hood AME Zion, Camino da Vida, and Christ Church.

  • "Stay Warm this Winter"
    January Soup Sale Fundraisers

The St. Hilda’s Guild "Stay Warm this Winter" Soup Sale Fundraisers are both successful and popular, thanks to your support! One example of the Guild's ministry -- to sponsor a few fundraising projects each year to benefit a local need -- has raised over $1,000 during a single breakfast and coffee hour to help the Hood African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church procure a new sign for their historic cemetery on Pine Hollow Road. The cemetery was a gift from the Weeks family, granted in 1884, as a place for many people of color to be interred. There are numerous veterans buried there, ranging from the Civil War to the present day.

  • Mardi Gras, February 28, 2017

Mardi Gras was celebrated on February 28th, with Shrove Tuesday, "Pancake Supper." Dinner was provided by the Men's Fellowship, with assistance from our Youth Group. The younger members of the parish enjoyed craft activities. All donations benefitted the Interfaith Nutrition Network.

  • Sunday, January 22,   Glenn Martin

On Sunday, January 22, we welcomed Glenn Martin, President and Founder of JustLeadershipUSA (JLUSA) to speak with us during Coffee Hour. JLUSA challenges the assumption that formerly incarcerated people lack the skills to thoughtfully weigh in on policy reform. Mr. Martin speaks from personal experience, having spent six years incarcerated in a New York State prison in the early 1990s. Since then he has been recognized with honors such as the 2017 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award and the 2014 Echoing Green Black Male Achievement Fellowship. Prior to founding JLUSA, he was the Vice President of The Fortune Society, one of the most respected reentry organizations in the country. Our Outreach Program helped support The Fortune Society’s mission in the past.

  • A very special visitor addressed Christ Christ, on Sunday, April 23rd

A very special visitor addressed Christ Christ, on Sunday, April 23rd. Father Michael Lapsley lost both of his hands and an eye in a letter bomb attack in Zimbabwe in 1990. In 1998, he founded the Institute for the Healing of Memories, an organization that assists people on their journeys to healing and wholeness. Father Lapsley generously shared his incredible story with us to show how letting go of what is destructive inside of you, can take from the past that which is lifegiving.

  • Palm Sunday Morning

The 10:00 am service on Palm Sunday always begins with a procession, which assembles outside the Rectory. The congregation follows the Choir into the Church after the palms are distributed.

  • Parish Life (January 2016 - August 2017)

  • Sunday, June 11, 2017

Sunday, June 11 was a busy day at Christ Church. The date marked the consecration of the current structure by Bishop Littlejohn of LI in 1879. This year we celebrated with a Festival of Dedication during the 10:00 am service.

The Parish Picnic was held at the Rectory following the service. The weather was fine (and hot!), the food delicious and plentiful. A good time was had by all! A special thank you to all who worked so hard to make this a special event again this year.

  • April 28th. Youth Sunday!

We enjoyed a special service this Sunday, with many members of our youth participating in the service, as Acolytes, readers, ushers, choir, and more.

  • Acolyte Recognition, 2017

Acolyte Recognition. At the 10:00 am service on Sunday, June 11, Father Piret recognized the dedication of the Acolyte servers for their volunteer efforts throughout the year.

  • Interfaith Human Needs Council Awards Dinner: Monday, May 8th, 2017

Interfaith Human Needs Council Awards Dinner: Monday, May 8th. This year the Renie Harer Service Award was presented to David Asher and Stephanie Augustine for their dedication to Christ Church and the wider community.

  • Gala Concert Sunday, June 4, 2017

We were treated to a special musical extravaganza, featuring our very own Choir, along with special guests and the Christ Church Festival Orchestra.

  • Tuesday, August 1, 2017

On Tuesday, August 1 Christ Church was visited by a very special guest from the Belarusian Orthodox Church. Sister Maria of the Sisterhood of St. Elizabeth Convent in Minsk joined us for "Tea and Cakes" in the Rectory to discuss the amazing charitable work of their community. She brought a variety of beautiful handcrafted objects, made in the workshops of the Convent. Proceeds from the sale of these items benefit the children and adults the sisters care for in rehab centers and hospitals in Minsk.
